Ocean Ties
Our innate relationship to water goes far deeper than economics, food, or proximity. The cells we evolved from began in the ocean and as human beings we spend the first nine months of our life immersed in the ‘watery’ environment of our mother’s womb. When we are born our bodies are approximately 78 percent water and the mineral composition of the water in our cells is comparable to that found in the sea. As human beings we are tied to the ocean. Within this body of work, I explore the idea of how, in an age where we are consumed by stress, technology, exile from the natural world and personal anxieties the beach is a retreat. There we can enter an introspective state inspired by the water surrounding us, one that induces a feeling of calmness, peacefulness, unity, happiness and satisfaction.
